While addressing mourners in Bondo, Ruth Odinga, the sister of Raila Odinga, made a striking claim: that her brother died aware the younger generation “wished he was dead.”

Ruth Odinga, the younger sister of Raila Odinga, shared an exceptionally close bond with the former Prime Minister and was present with him at the moment of his death.

During her address in Opodo Farm, Ruth conveyed her shock at the turnout of young mourners for Raila Odinga, contrasting their present grief with the hostility and ill wishes they had directed toward him in life

You’re the same people, especially you as a Gen Z who’s telling me the outpouring of love when he’s dead. How about when he was alive and you were saying akufe. He died knowing that you people (Gen Zs) preferred him dead. It is only we who are seeing the outpouring, but how about Baba? He would have loved you people to have more love

Amidst tears, she continued;

For those who said those things when he was still alive, it was really wrong but for those who have shown their love right now, hamkujua the reality would be this but the loss is for Kenya. When I laid him down and stopped the machines I said Kenya has lost. Kenya is lost, I don’t know where it’s going without Raila

This speech caught Gen Zs off-guard. Raila will be remembered as a selfless leader who put Kenya and Kenyans first.

His burial is set for tomorrow, Sunday, 19th 2025. He will be buried at his father’s home in Bondo.World leaders led by president William Ruto will be in attendance.
