CCTV Footage Shows Kenyan Woman Trying to Burn UK Neighbor’s Home
A former Kenyan nurse has received a suspended prison sentence after pleading guilty to attempted arson at her neighbor’s residence in Kent, England, following a dispute that escalated to criminal violence.

The 49-year-old woman, whose identity has been withheld, was captured on Ring doorbell security footage attempting to set fire to her neighbor’s front door in the early morning hours while the occupants slept inside.
CCTV Evidence Reveals Attack Details
Twenty minutes of surveillance footage obtained from the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) shows the defendant approaching her neighbor’s entrance wearing nightclothes and slippers before striking and tossing three lit matches at the wooden door.
The incident occurred during pre-dawn hours when the targeted family remained asleep, unaware of the danger unfolding outside their home.
Prosecutors at Folkestone Magistrates’ Court characterized the act as premeditated retaliation stemming from an ongoing residential conflict between the two households.
“This was a deliberate attempt to set fire to an occupied home. The consequences could have been catastrophic,” prosecution counsel told the court during proceedings.
Weather Conditions Prevented Fire
Heavy rainfall on the night of the attack saturated the doormat, preventing the matches from igniting successfully. No flames developed, and authorities confirmed no injuries occurred and no property sustained damage.
However, law enforcement and prosecutors emphasized that only environmental factors prevented what could have been a fatal incident for the sleeping family.
Mental Health Considerations Factor in Sentencing
Defense attorneys informed the court that their client has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and faced significant personal stressors alongside serious health complications at the time of the offense.
The presiding magistrate acknowledged these mitigating mental health circumstances but maintained that attempted arson constitutes a grave criminal matter regardless of underlying conditions.
Court Imposes Suspended Sentence and Restrictions
Following her guilty plea, the magistrate handed down a four-month custodial sentence, suspended entirely for 18 months contingent on compliance with court-ordered conditions.
The court imposed a comprehensive five-year restraining order prohibiting any contact or proximity to the victim and her property. The defendant received permanent instructions to avoid all communication with her former neighbor.
Financial penalties included approximately £115 (Ksh 15,000) in court costs. The sentence also mandates ongoing mental health treatment and supervision throughout the suspension period.
Clear Evidence Expedited Prosecution
The Crown Prosecution Service moved rapidly to file charges after reviewing the Ring camera recordings, which provided unambiguous visual documentation of the attempted arson.
CPS representatives noted that modern home security technology increasingly provides prosecutors with conclusive evidence in neighbor dispute cases that escalate beyond civil matters into criminal territory.
Rising Concern Over Neighbor Disputes in UK
The case highlights growing concerns about residential conflicts in British communities that deteriorate from minor disagreements into violent confrontations requiring criminal justice intervention.
Legal experts indicate that neighbor disputes involving property damage, harassment, or violence have increased across England and Wales in recent years, prompting calls for improved conflict resolution resources before situations reach crisis levels.
The defendant must adhere strictly to all sentencing conditions to avoid activation of the prison term during the 18-month supervision period.
