Nassir Declares ODM “In It To Win It” as Party Eyes 2027 Victory
Mombasa – Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir on Saturday hosted a high-profile delegation of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leaders in the coastal city, in what marked a significant gathering as the party positions itself ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The meeting, held in Mombasa, saw the attendance of ODM party leader Oburu Odinga, who was making his first visit to the port city in his leadership capacity. Also present was Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, who the party is reportedly considering as a potential presidential candidate for the 2027 race.
Speaking at the event, Governor Nassir emphasized the party’s unity and historical significance in Kenya’s democratic journey. “ODM is not just a political party; it is a family and the backbone of democracy in Kenya,” Nassir told the gathering.
The governor paid tribute to ODM party leader Raila Odinga, describing him as a leader whose vision has consistently prioritized the nation’s interests. “Raila is not just a leader; he has always thought about Kenya first. ODM’s legacy is democracy,” Nassir stated.
Addressing the party’s current political positioning, Governor Nassir clarified ODM’s participation in the broad-based government while drawing a clear distinction from a formal coalition. “We are part of the broad-based government, but let me be clear – ODM is not in a coalition with Kenya Kwanza,” he said.
Looking ahead to the 2027 elections, Nassir urged party members to remain patient and united as the leadership deliberates on its electoral strategy. “Come 2027, the party will give clear direction on where we will stand. What I can tell you is that ODM will not be in the opposition. We are in it to win it,” the governor declared.
Nassir called for party solidarity during this transitional period, cautioning members against divisive tendencies. “We must remain steadfast as we wait for the party’s direction. We cannot allow ourselves to be divided,” he said.
In an emotional appeal to party faithful, the governor invoked the party’s past electoral setbacks as motivation for future success. “The tears we have shed after losing with Raila will be the fuel that pushes the ODM party to victory,” Nassir said, rallying supporters ahead of the next election cycle.
The meeting comes at a crucial time for ODM as it navigates its role in the current government while preparing for the 2027 elections, with speculation mounting about the party’s eventual presidential candidate and electoral alliances.
