Mombasa Governor Hosts Christian Leaders in Interfaith Engagement Initiative
By Feddy Madebe
Governor Abdulswamad Nassir received a delegation of Christian clergy at his office in a courtesy visit highlighting the county administration’s commitment to interfaith collaboration and community partnerships.

The religious leaders, locally referred to as “City Fathers,” met with the governor to acknowledge support provided by the Sharrif Nassir Foundation during the Christmas season.
Speaking after the meeting, Governor Nassir emphasized the critical contribution of faith-based leaders in fostering social cohesion and community service across the coastal county.
“Faith leaders play an essential role in nurturing compassion, unity, and service within our communities,” the governor stated, noting the significance of the delegation’s visit.
Inclusivity Central to County Governance
The governor highlighted Mombasa’s diverse demographic composition, describing the port city as a convergence point for multiple cultures, ethnic communities, and religious traditions.
Nassir stressed that the county government’s approach to administration prioritizes representation and participation from all sectors of society, ensuring that diverse perspectives inform policy development and service delivery.

“Our strength lies in ensuring that every voice feels seen, heard, and valued,” he remarked, underscoring the administration’s philosophy of inclusive governance.
The governor indicated that regular engagement with faith leaders from various religious backgrounds forms a core component of the county’s strategy for mainstreaming inclusivity and promoting shared responsibility in public affairs.
Cross-Sector Partnership Commitment
Deputy Governor Francis Thoya accompanied Nassir during the meeting, demonstrating unified leadership support for interfaith dialogue and community collaboration.
Both county officials reaffirmed the administration’s dedication to maintaining active partnerships with all societal segments as part of efforts to build what they described as a caring, cohesive, and progressive county.
The engagement with Christian clergy follows similar consultative forums the county government has held with other faith communities and civil society organizations as part of its broader stakeholder engagement framework.

County officials indicated that such meetings facilitate communication between government and grassroots institutions, creating channels for addressing community concerns and coordinating development initiatives.
The Sharrif Nassir Foundation, referenced during the clergy visit, operates as a charitable organization providing humanitarian assistance to vulnerable populations across Mombasa County, with particular focus on seasonal support programs during religious and cultural observances.
Religious leaders present at the meeting expressed appreciation for the foundation’s interventions and pledged continued collaboration with county authorities in addressing social welfare needs and promoting community development objectives.
