Media Personality Obinna Alleges Presidential Intervention Thwarted “Rogue Unit” Plot
In a startling revelation on his YouTube show this Monday, popular media figure Oga Obinna claimed that a planned threat against him was personally defused by President William Ruto. The alleged plot was said to have been triggered by Obinna’s high-stakes interview with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on May 16.

Obinna narrated a tense sequence of events, stating he received credible intelligence from multiple sources about a “rogue unit” that had begun tracking his movements with malicious intent. According to him, the situation was only de-escalated when President Ruto directly intervened.
“The person who stopped them was the President,” Obinna stated unequivocally.
He credited an “external party” who was present in the room with the President for relaying the decisive moment. Obinna quoted the President’s alleged words: “Leave the young man alone. If we start beating young men, what exactly are we doing? Leave him alone; he has done nothing wrong. Let him do his thing. Nobody should touch him.”
This, Obinna emphasized, were the “exact words” conveyed to him by what he described as a “very credible person.”
The media personality’s account suggests a multi-source confirmation of the threat. He claimed that even before the presidential intervention reached him, a prominent journalist had urgently warned him to “stay vigilant” against an imminent plot. The journalist reportedly had specific details, informing Obinna that the unit was aware of his movements and was actively tracking him.
More recently, a separate individual with alleged “deep state” connections corroborated the entire story, reinforcing Obinna’s belief that President Ruto indeed foiled a coordinated attack.
The interview in question, a three-hour tell-all with Rigathi Gachagua in May, delved into politically sensitive topics. The former DP opened up about his fallout with President Ruto, the graft allegations he faced, and the violent disruption that marred the launch of his Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP).
The palpable fear following the interview was admitted by Obinna and his crew immediately after the taping. Recounting the nervous drive home, Obinna said, “Every time I saw a police roadblock, I froze.”
He laughed nervously alongside his team as he remembered the night, adding, “There were so many roadblocks. I didn’t even want to drive home last night. Pray for me. I’ve brought this on myself!” That initial anxiety now appears, in Obinna’s telling, to have been a prelude to a much more serious threat that was only averted by the highest office in the land.
