MOMBASA – Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir on Monday led a charged political gathering in Kisauni, calling on Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) members to strengthen party unity as they commemorate 80 years of their late leader Raila Odinga’s life and 20 years of the party’s influence on Kenyan politics.

The engagement, held at the constituency that holds special significance as the birthplace of ODM’s political journey in the region, brought together key party officials and elected leaders to reinforce solidarity within the party ranks.

“This is the time for every ODM member and supporter in Kisauni to rally together, deepen our unity, and fortify the party that has always stood for justice, equality, and the transformation of our nation,” Governor Nassir told the gathering led by ODM Kisauni branch Chairman Mohamed Mwandugu.

The Governor paid tribute to the late Raila Odinga, noting that Kisauni was instrumental in the political rise of the former Prime Minister, with local supporters providing crucial backing throughout his career.
“In honor and beloved memory of our late Leader, I called on our members to stand firmly behind ODM,” Nassir said, emphasizing that the party’s strength lies in solidarity and shared purpose.
The meeting was attended by Kisauni Member of Parliament Hon. Rashid Bedzimba and several ODM ward representatives including Amriya Boy (Mjambere), Patrick Mbelle (Bamburi), Milka Areba (Nominated), Maimuna Salim (Nominated), Athman Mwamiri (Likoni), and Manuari Juma (Bofu).
Also present were officials from the ODM County Coordinating Committee, led by Chairman Mohamed Khamis, signaling a coordinated effort to consolidate the party’s grassroots support in the coastal region.
The gathering comes at a time when ODM seeks to maintain its political relevance and organizational cohesion following the death of its long-time leader.
