HELB Issues Urgent Warning Against Fraudulent Recruitment Scams in Kenya
Higher Education Loans Board cautions job seekers as fraudsters impersonate government institution promising fake employment opportunities
The Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) has issued a critical public alert warning Kenyan citizens against fraudulent recruitment schemes being conducted by individuals falsely claiming to represent the government agency.

In an official statement released on Thursday, February 12, 2025, HELB emphasized that it does not engage third-party recruiters, agents, or intermediaries for staff recruitment purposes, urging job seekers to exercise extreme caution when approached with employment offers.
HELB Does Not Use Third-Party Recruiters
The loans board made it categorically clear that all legitimate recruitment processes are conducted exclusively through official HELB channels, with announcements published only on verified platforms.
“HELB wishes to inform members of the public and all job applicants that the loans board does not recruit through agents or third-party agencies,” the official statement confirmed.
The government institution stressed that any individual or organization claiming to facilitate employment at HELB in exchange for money, favors, or other considerations is operating fraudulently.
No Recruitment Fees Required for HELB Job Applications
HELB further clarified that it does not charge any fees whatsoever during the recruitment process. Additionally, the board does not request medical reports or documentation beyond what is explicitly stated in official job advertisements.
According to the statement, any demand for payment to secure employment, expedite applications, or guarantee shortlisting should be immediately recognized as fraudulent activity and reported to law enforcement authorities.
“Members of the public are advised to be vigilant and avoid engaging with individuals or groups claiming to represent HELB in exchange for employment opportunities,” the board emphasized.
How to Verify Legitimate HELB Communication
To help Kenyans distinguish authentic communications from fraudulent schemes, HELB provided official contact information for verification purposes:
- Official Phone Number: +254 711 052 000
- Official Email Address: contactcentre@helb.co.ke
“All official communication from HELB is conducted through verified channels only,” the agency stated, encouraging the public to contact these official lines directly for inquiries or to report suspicious activity.
Rising Trend of Employment Scams Targeting Kenyan Job Seekers
The HELB warning comes amid growing reports of fraudsters across Kenya exploiting desperate job seekers by impersonating government institutions, parastatals, and reputable organizations.
These scammers typically promise guaranteed employment in exchange for upfront payments, personal information, or other fraudulent requirements, leaving victims financially exploited and without legitimate job prospects.
HELB Reaffirms Commitment to Transparent Recruitment
The Higher Education Loans Board has reiterated its dedication to fair, transparent, and merit-based recruitment processes that comply with government employment regulations and standards.
The institution encourages all Kenyans who encounter suspicious recruitment activities claiming association with HELB to report such incidents immediately through official channels to help protect other potential victims.
Job seekers are advised to:
- Only respond to job advertisements published on official HELB platforms
- Verify all recruitment communications through official contact channels
- Never pay money to secure employment opportunities
- Report suspected fraud to relevant authorities immediately
- Remain skeptical of unsolicited employment offers
For the latest legitimate employment opportunities at HELB and other government institutions, Kenyans should regularly check official government job portals and verified institutional websites.
