The appointment, made by President William Ruto, sees Mr. Wanga take the helm of the crucial institution for a three-year term. He moves to the bureau from his previous role at the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA).
According to a statement, Wanga assumed the office on Wednesday, November 26, following a meeting with Basic Education Principal Secretary Julius Bitok at the Ministry’s headquarters in Nairobi. During the meeting, he outlined his vision for the organization, pledging to strengthen collaboration with the Ministry of Education.
“I am committed to ensuring that KLB fulfills its mandate in supporting the advancement of basic education,” Wanga stated. He emphasized the bureau’s readiness to deliver high-quality, curriculum-aligned learning materials to support ongoing educational reforms, including the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
In his new capacity as MD, Wanga will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the KLB, guiding policy implementation, and spearheading the organization’s long-term strategic growth.
PS Bitok welcomed the new Managing Director, expressing confidence in his leadership. “We are optimistic that his tenure will enhance the Bureau’s capacity to support the government’s rollout of competency-based learning across the nation,” Bitok said.
Established in 1980, the Kenya Literature Bureau is a key pillar in the country’s educational system, responsible for publishing, printing, and distributing a wide range of curriculum-based textbooks and other learning materials used in schools throughout Kenya.
