Violence marred ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna’s Linda Mwananchi rally in Kakamega after clashes broke out between supporters and a group allegedly hired to disrupt the event, leaving one man dead.
A man was killed during Edwin Sifuna’s Linda Mwananchi rally in Kakamega after he was allegedly set upon by angry supporters, in what witnesses described as a chaotic scene that briefly threatened to derail the political gathering.
According to sources at the scene, a group of youth were allegedly paid to disrupt the rally, but were met by Sifuna supporters who were reportedly prepared for the confrontation. Tension escalated sharply when a teargas canister was thrown at the venue just as Sifuna was being called to address the crowd.
Despite the unrest, Sifuna refused to call off the rally and continued with his address as chaos unfolded around him.

In one incident witnessed by those present, a man who was seen receiving a severe beating from the crowd was rescued by Sifuna and other leaders at the event. Angry supporters accused the man of being paid to cause disruption.
A separate man, who was reportedly spotted singing the controversial Tutam song during the rally, was allegedly killed by irate supporters.
Among the senior leaders who attended the rally were Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino, Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi, and Siaya Senator James Orengo.
