Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba disclosed the decision in an official communication released on Friday, stating that a second review process will run from January 6 through January 9, 2026.
The announcement comes as part of the ministry’s efforts to address grievances from families and education stakeholders regarding the placement of learners transitioning to senior secondary school.
“Learners will have an additional window to submit appeals concerning their school placements during the designated four-day period,” Ogamba stated. “This process allows families to present valid, documented reasons that warrant reconsideration of where their children have been assigned.”
According to ministry records, the initial round of placement revisions wrapped up on December 29, with assignment letters becoming accessible through the online placement system the following day.
The upcoming review phase will focus specifically on cases where families can substantiate their requests with verifiable documentation and legitimate circumstances, as authorities work to ensure equitable access while maximizing the use of existing school infrastructure.
The Cabinet Secretary outlined that families may submit their appeals either through their child’s current junior school or by approaching the desired senior school directly, with the approach depending on individual circumstances.
School administrators will process these requests through the ministry’s digital placement platform, following established procedural guidelines.
In a related announcement, the ministry confirmed that all primary and secondary institutions will commence the first term of 2026 on Monday, January 5, as scheduled.
Education officials at regional and county levels have been instructed to oversee the school reopening process and verify compliance with the national academic calendar.
The placement review mechanism is integral to the country’s shift toward senior secondary education under the Competency-Based Curriculum framework, which designates Grade 10 as the entry level for this phase of learning.
Ministry officials are encouraging families to utilize authorized channels and observe specified deadlines to prevent complications as the new academic year gets underway.
The government’s decision to provide this additional review opportunity reflects ongoing adjustments as the education system navigates the implementation of curriculum reforms affecting thousands of students nationwide.
