Students with KCSE Mean Grade C Plain can access diverse academic pathways through various certificate and diploma programs

MASENO, Kenya — Maseno University offers multiple academic opportunities for students who attained a C plain grade in their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education examinations, with programs spanning business, information technology, hospitality, arts, and social sciences.
According to current admission requirements published on the university’s official portal, students with a C plain grade qualify for various certificate and diploma programs across different schools within the institution.
Certificate Programs
Students with a mean grade of D+ with D in Mathematics and English can pursue certificate programs in Hospitality and Tourism through the School of Physical and Biological Sciences, and Information Technology through the School of Computing and Informatics.
The School of Business and Economics accepts students with at least a mean grade of D+ for certificate programs including Business Administration, Human Resource Management, Sales and Marketing, Purchasing, and Management.
Additional certificate options include programs in Public Administration, Community Development, Sign Language, Special and Inclusive Education, and Gender Development, all requiring minimum grades between D+ and C plain depending on specific subject requirements.
Diploma Programs
For diploma-level studies, Maseno University requires a mean grade of C plain with C- in English and D+ in Mathematics, or KCE Division III with passes in English and Mathematics for programs in agriculture, arts, and social sciences.
The School of Agriculture and Food Security offers a Diploma in Plant Genetics Resources and Biodiversity with these requirements.
The School of Arts and Social Sciences provides diploma programs in French, Church Music, Film and Theatre Studies, Music, Music Production and Technology, Social Work, Textile Design, Fine Art, Interior Design, Fashion Design and Accessories, and Journalism and Mass Media, all requiring the same C plain grade threshold.
Business and IT Diploma Options
The School of Business and Economics requires a mean grade of C plain, or C- with a certificate from Maseno University or another recognized institution for diploma programs including Business Administration, Human Resource Management, Sales and Marketing, Small and Medium Size Enterprises, Strategic Management, Health Economics, Transport System Management, Purchasing and Supply, and Total Quality Management.
For the Diploma in Information and Communication Technology, students must meet minimum requirements set by the School of Computing and Informatics, which accepts candidates with C- grades alongside certificates in IT or ICT with overall credit passes.
Pathways to Degree Programs
Beyond direct certificate and diploma enrollment, students with C plain grades who complete relevant diploma programs with credit passes may qualify for degree programs at Maseno University. The School of Business and Economics accepts degree applications from students with C plain grades who hold CPA Part II qualifications for the Bachelor of Business Administration program, with opportunities for credit transfers.
Similarly, the School of Computing and Informatics admits students with KCSE C plain grades who possess diplomas in Computer Science to its Bachelor of Science programs, creating advancement pathways for diploma graduates.

Prospective students must pay a non-refundable application fee of 2,000 shillings and submit completed application forms to the Office of the Registrar, Academic Affairs. The university conducts three intakes annually in January, May, and September, though not all programs admit students during each intake period.
