CECM Amadoh Tours Likoni Housing Site to Monitor Construction Progress
By Feddy Madebe
LIKONI — Mombasa County Executive Committee Member for Housing Husein Amadoh conducted a site inspection of the ongoing Likoni Housing Project, as officials assess progress on initiatives aimed at addressing the coastal city’s mounting housing shortage.

The CECM, accompanied by the county’s Director of Housing and technical staff, toured the development site to evaluate construction timelines and gather insights for future residential interventions across the county.
Addressing Critical Housing Shortage
County officials highlighted the pressing need for expanded housing solutions in Mombasa, where demand continues to outpace available residential units. The inspection forms part of broader efforts to accelerate delivery of housing projects within the region.

Speaking during the visit, Amadoh emphasized the multifaceted benefits of increasing affordable housing stock in the county. Officials noted that improved access to quality housing directly impacts several key development indicators.
Strategic Importance for Urban Development
The county housing leadership outlined how affordable housing expansion serves multiple policy objectives beyond mere shelter provision. Enhanced housing access contributes to improved living conditions for residents while simultaneously addressing the proliferation of unplanned settlements across urban areas.
Health and safety outcomes also feature prominently in the county’s housing strategy, with officials linking adequate housing to better public health metrics. Additionally, the administration views housing provision as a mechanism for advancing social equity within Mombasa’s diverse communities.

Project Monitoring and Future Planning
The technical team used the site visit to assess whether construction remains on schedule for timely completion. Information gathered during the inspection will inform the design and implementation of subsequent housing developments planned across Mombasa County.
The Likoni Housing Project represents one of several residential initiatives currently underway as the county government works to close the housing gap. Officials have not disclosed specific completion dates or the number of units under construction at the Likoni site.

County records indicate that Mombasa faces significant housing deficits, particularly in the affordable housing segment, driven by rapid urbanization and population growth in the coastal hub.
The administration has positioned housing development as a priority area within its broader urban planning and social development agenda.
