Beryl Achieng Odinga, Sister of Raila Odinga, Dies!

The Odinga family is mourning the sudden death of Beryl Achieng Odinga, sister to former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and daughter of Kenya’s independence hero, the late Jaramogi Oginga Odinga.

The family announced her passing in a statement released Tuesday, expressing grief while accepting what they described as “the will of God.”

Beryl Achieng Odinga was the daughter of the late Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, Kenya’s first Vice President, and the late Mary Ajuma Oginga Odinga. She leaves behind three children: Ami Auma, Chizi, and Taurai.

She was sister to Senator Oburu Oginga, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, and Akinyi Wenwa, among other siblings. Her sisters-in-law include Dr. Anne Oburu, Dr. Canon Ida Odinga, Hon. Tabu Osewe, and Judy Oburu.

In their statement, the family acknowledged the profound loss and the void left by her departure, while expressing gratitude for the time they shared with her.

“While we are deeply saddened by her demise and the immense void left in our lives, we take solace in the belief that she is safe in the Lord’s arms,” the family said. “We are thankful for the invaluable gift of the time we were privileged to share with her and for the profound impact she had on all who knew her.”

The cause of death and further details surrounding the circumstances of her passing have not been disclosed by the family.

Beryl Achieng Odinga was part of one of Kenya’s most prominent political dynasties, which has played a central role in the country’s political landscape since independence. The Odinga family has been at the forefront of Kenya’s democratic struggles and governance for multiple generations.
