Abdulswamad Ali Emerges as Frontrunner for Nyali MP Seat in 2027 Race
By Feddy Madebe
Abdulswamad Ali is positioning himself as the leading candidate to succeed Mohammed Ali, popularly known as Jicho Pevu, as Member of Parliament for Nyali Constituency in the upcoming 2027 general elections.

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate has significantly increased his visibility on the ground over the past year, transforming from relative obscurity to a prominent contender in the constituency race.
Ali, who refers to himself as the “acting MP,” has conducted strategic grassroots campaigns designed to introduce his policy agenda to Nyali voters, with early indications suggesting positive reception among constituents.
Background and Business Interests

The candidate, commonly known by his initials AA, is a former journalist who transitioned into entrepreneurship.
Ali’s legislative agenda centers on four primary pillars: education advancement, infrastructure development, enhanced security measures, and job creation for constituency residents.
Political Alignment
As the UDA party candidate, Ali is aligned with President William Ruto’s administration. His candidacy runs parallel to Hassan Omar Hassan’s gubernatorial bid on the same party ticket for the 2027 elections. Hassan Omar currently serves as UDA Secretary General, providing organizational support to party candidates across the Coast region.
The political alignment positions Ali within the ruling coalition’s framework as it seeks to expand its influence in coastal constituencies that have historically supported opposition movements.
Growing Ground Presence

Over the past twelve months, Ali has intensified his community engagement activities throughout Nyali Constituency. His calculated approach to voter outreach has focused on direct interaction with residents and articulation of specific development priorities for the area.
The constituency has been represented by Mohammed Ali since 2017. Ali, an investigative journalist renowned for his exposé work under the “Jicho Pevu” brand, won the seat on a People’s Democratic Party ticket before later joining the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
Development Priorities
Ali’s campaign messaging emphasizes infrastructure improvement as a central component of his agenda, addressing concerns about road networks, drainage systems, and public facilities within the constituency.

His education focus includes proposals for enhanced learning infrastructure and support programs for students from disadvantaged backgrounds. The security component of his platform addresses residents’ concerns about crime prevention and community safety.
Job creation initiatives form the fourth pillar of his agenda, with emphasis on youth employment opportunities and support for small and medium enterprises within the constituency.
Electoral Landscape
Nyali Constituency, located in Mombasa County, has been a competitive electoral battleground in recent cycles. The 2027 race is expected to attract multiple candidates from various political formations as parties position themselves for the general elections.
Ali’s early campaign launch and sustained ground engagement suggest a strategy focused on building name recognition and establishing direct relationships with voters well ahead of the official campaign period.
The UDA party’s organizational machinery in the Coast region, under Hassan Omar’s leadership, is expected to provide logistical and strategic support to Ali’s parliamentary bid as part of the party’s broader efforts to secure seats in the region.
As the 2027 elections approach, Ali’s campaign will likely face competition from candidates representing other political parties, including potentially the ODM, which has traditionally held strong support in coastal constituencies.
