Governor Abdulswamad Seals Key Logistics Agreement with Sudanese Transport Minister

MOMBASA, Kenya – Mombasa County Governor Abdulswamad Nassir met with South Sudan’s Minister for Transport, Hon. Rizik Zakaria Hassan, on Thursday, signaling a significant step towards enhancing bilateral cooperation in the critical logistics sector.

The high-level meeting, held at the County Government offices, focused on strengthening the strategic partnership between the port city of Mombasa and the landlocked nation of South Sudan. Both leaders described the talks as productive and centered on leveraging Mombasa’s position as a regional trade hub.

Governor Nassir, who hosted the delegation, emphasized Mombasa’s readiness to be a key logistics partner for Juba.

“I was pleased to host Hon. Rizik Zakaria Hassan for a productive meeting,” stated Governor Nassir following the discussions. “Our discussions centered on strengthening collaboration between Mombasa and South Sudan in the logistics sector. Mombasa is well positioned to support trade and business in South Sudan.”

The Governor outlined the expected mutual benefits of the deepened collaboration, highlighting its potential to spur economic growth for both parties. He asserted that the partnership is poised to “create jobs, stimulate investment, and boost our local economy while deepening regional integration.”

For South Sudan, which relies heavily on the Mombasa port for its imports, a more efficient logistics corridor is vital for economic stability and growth. Minister Rizik’s visit underscores the Juba government’s commitment to streamlining its supply chains and reducing the cost of doing business.

The new collaboration is expected to involve initiatives aimed at improving port efficiency, enhancing customs processes, and developing integrated transport and storage solutions specifically for South Sudanese cargo. This move aligns with broader regional goals under the East African Community (EAC) to foster economic interdependence and strengthen infrastructure links.

The meeting between the two officials marks a concrete effort to translate the vision of regional integration into tangible economic gains, with Mombasa County positioning itself at the forefront of this transformative trade relationship.
