ODM Vows to Stay in Government, Pledges Stability After Raila’s Death
In a significant political declaration, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has affirmed its commitment to remain within President William Ruto’s broad-based government and will support his bid for a second term.
The announcement was made during the emotional burial ceremony of the party’s charismatic leader, the late Raila Odinga.

Speaking on behalf of the party, Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina sought to project a message of unity and stability, assuring supporters that ODM would steadfastly follow the blueprint laid out by its late leader.
The ODM party is united and will follow the plans Baba had for the party,” Senator Ole Kina stated. “We will continue with the two-term movement, allowing President William Ruto to have a second term.
The “two-term movement” reference signals the party’s strategic alignment with the current administration and quells speculation of an immediate political rupture following Odinga’s passing.
Adding a personal and poignant charge to the gathering, the late leader’s daughter, Winnie Odinga, appealed to Kenyans and her father’s vast support base to honor him by preserving his life’s work.
“Let us keep his legacy alive,” she urged the mourners, highlighting the deep personal and political loss felt across the nation.
The funeral service drew a host of prominent African figures, underscoring Raila Odinga’s continental stature. Among the dignitaries in attendance were former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo and former Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta.
With the party now navigating its future without its founding father, leadership has formally transitioned to Raila Odinga’s elder brother, Dr. Oburu Odinga, who is expected to steer the party through this period of transition and consolidation.
