Local authorities in Karatina have dismantled a makeshift lodging site operating in a bush area, which residents had been using as an alternative to conventional accommodation facilities.

The informal site emerged as a response to high accommodation costs in the town, where some lodgings charge up to Ksh 300 per night, according to local reports.

Evidence recovered during the clearance operation suggested multiple activities had been conducted at the location. Officials moved to shut down the site as part of efforts to maintain public order and health standards in the area.
