KUCCPS 2026: Marketable Degree Programmes With the Lowest Cut-Off Points in Kenyan Universities

The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has released placement data showing that several high-demand degree programmes remain accessible to students with relatively low cluster cut-off points across various public universities.

Thousands of Kenyan students and their families poring over university placement options have a reason to look beyond the traditional top-tier institutions. KUCCPS has confirmed that a wide range of competitive and marketable degree programmes are available at public universities across the country — many of them at surprisingly accessible cluster cut-off points.

The cut-off points published by KUCCPS represent the minimum cluster score attained by the last student admitted into each programme during the 2024 placement cycle. Because cut-offs vary significantly from one university to another depending on enrolment capacity and application demand, students stand to benefit from carefully comparing institutions offering the same course before making their choices.

Engineering Programmes: Where to Access Competitive Courses at Lower Entry Points

Among the most sought-after academic pathways, engineering degrees remain available at several universities with moderate cluster requirements. Dedan Kimathi University of Technology admitted students into Mechanical Engineering at a cut-off of 38.1, while South Eastern Kenya University accepted Civil Engineering students at 37.6.

Kirinyaga University offered Electrical and Electronic Engineering at 37.3, and Murang’a University of Technology admitted students into Mechatronic Engineering at 36.8. Multimedia University of Kenya recorded a cut-off of 36.4 for Telecommunication Engineering, with Technical University of Mombasa admitting Marine Engineering students at 36.2. Machakos University placed students into Industrial and Production Engineering at 36.7, while the University of Eldoret offered Agricultural Engineering at 35.9.

Medical and Health Sciences: Accessible Entry Points for Health Careers

Aspiring healthcare professionals will find several entry points worth noting. Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology admitted Nursing students at 37.2, while Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology placed students in Public Health at 35.8. Kisii University offered Medical Laboratory Science at 36.4.

University of Kabianga accepted Environmental Health students at 34.9, and Pwani University admitted students into Nutrition and Dietetics at 35.6. Meru University of Science and Technology recorded a cut-off of 34.5 for Health Records and Information Management. Alupe University offered Community Health at a cut-off of 34.2 — among the lowest in the health sciences cluster — while Laikipia University admitted Public Health students at 34.8.

ICT and Technology: Competitive Tech Degrees at Moderate Cut-Off Points

In an era where technology skills are increasingly essential, several universities are offering ICT-related degrees at accessible entry points. Kibabii University admitted students into Information Technology at 31.6, and Rongo University offered Information Communication Technology at 31.4 — one of the lowest cut-offs recorded for technology courses.

Meru University of Science and Technology placed students into Software Engineering at 32.9, Technical University of Kenya accepted Information Systems students at 32.8, and Murang’a University of Technology admitted Computer Science students at 33.1. Maseno University offered Computer Science at a cut-off of 33.5.

Business and Economics: Wide Access Across Multiple Institutions

Business-related degree programmes recorded some of the most accessible cut-off points in the 2024 KUCCPS placement cycle. Murang’a University of Technology led with the lowest cut-off for Entrepreneurship at 22.8, followed by Rongo University for Procurement and Supply Chain Management at 22.9. University of Embu and Karatina University both admitted Commerce and Project Planning and Management students respectively at 23.0.

Kisii University offered Economics at 23.1, Maasai Mara University admitted Human Resource Management students at 23.2, and Machakos University placed students into Business Administration at 23.3.

Agriculture and Environmental Studies

The University of Eldoret and Chuka University admitted Agriculture and Agribusiness Management students respectively at 23.2 and 23.3. Egerton University offered Environmental Science at 23.3, South Eastern Kenya University accepted Environmental Studies students at 23.1, and Pwani University placed students into Marine and Fisheries Science at 23.0.

Education, Social Sciences, and Governance

Education degrees remained broadly accessible, with Tom Mboya University offering Education (Science) at 23.2, Kaimosi Friends University admitting Education Arts students at 23.1, Tharaka University at 23.3, and Kisii University at 23.4.

Among social sciences, Egerton University recorded the lowest cut-off in this cluster — Bachelor of Arts at 21.8. Other notable entries include Multimedia University of Kenya’s Bachelor of Arts (Psychology, Sociology and Political Science) at 22.8, and Laikipia University’s Peace and Conflict Studies at 23.1. Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology offered Journalism and Mass Communication at 23.3, while Moi University admitted Records Management students at 23.0.

What Students Should Know Before Applying

While flagship institutions such as the University of Nairobi, Kenyatta University, and Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) continue to attract the highest cut-off points due to demand, most public universities across Kenya offer equally marketable programmes at lower cluster requirements.

It is important to note, however, that meeting a programme’s cut-off point does not automatically guarantee placement. Programme capacity and the overall level of competition among applicants remain critical factors in the final selection process.

KUCCPS has advised students, parents, and school counsellors to use the 2024 cut-off data as a strategic guide when preparing for the upcoming university placement round, and to explore all available options across multiple institutions before submitting their choices.
