Ruto: UDA-ODM Alliance Must Secure Two Million Vote Lead in Next General Election

President William Ruto has set an ambitious electoral target for the governing coalition, declaring that the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) partnership must win the 2027 General Election by a substantial margin of two to three million votes.

The head of state made the remarks Monday during a UDA National Governing Council meeting at State House in Nairobi, where he outlined his vision for strengthening the political alliance ahead of the next electoral cycle.

Drawing lessons from the 2022 presidential contest, which he won by approximately 200,000 votes, Ruto emphasized the importance of securing a more commanding mandate to ensure uninterrupted implementation of government policies.

“Future leadership requires broader public endorsement,” the President told party delegates, arguing that a decisive victory would provide the political capital necessary to advance the administration’s transformation agenda.

Coalition Politics and National Unity

Ruto mounted a robust defense of the collaboration between UDA and ODM, framing it as essential to fostering national cohesion and dismantling what he characterized as a historical pattern of post-election exclusion.

“There is justification for us to consolidate the country into one,” he stated. “There is enough for every Kenyan. One does not need to miss for the other one to get.”

The President praised ODM officials currently serving in his government, describing their participation as evidence of political maturity and a commitment to national priorities over partisan considerations.

President Ruto highlighted what he described as significant achievements by the Kenya Kwanza administration, citing progress in energy generation, agricultural modernization, and infrastructure expansion as cornerstones of the government’s development platform.
