KUCCPS Sets Date for Opening of University and College Placement Portal

CEO Agnes Wahome announces timeline as service prepares to place nearly one million learners in tertiary institutions

NAIROBI, Kenya — The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service has confirmed that its online placement portal will become accessible in March, setting the stage for the transition of 2025 KCSE candidates to higher education institutions beginning in September.

KUCCPS Chief Executive Officer Agnes Wahome disclosed the timeline during a Monday, January 26 interview with Inooro TV, describing the portal launch as a crucial preparatory measure for tertiary education enrollment.

Upon activation, the platform will provide applicants with comprehensive guidance materials designed to assist them in navigating the selection process and making well-informed choices regarding universities and colleges.

Capacity Assessment Underway

Wahome revealed that KUCCPS is currently evaluating institutional capacity declarations submitted by universities and colleges to ensure student placements align with available spaces at each institution.

The placement service is conducting extensive coordination with both tertiary institutions and internal teams to prevent confusion during the announcement of placements, according to the CEO.

To ensure equitable access, KUCCPS has established dedicated service points at Huduma centres nationwide, staffed by trained personnel. This infrastructure aims to accommodate students in regions with limited internet connectivity, guaranteeing equal opportunity for all applicants to submit their preferences.

Inclusive Placement Approach

Wahome emphasized that every student who completed the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education examination will have opportunities to select courses and institutions through the placement portal based on their academic performance.

The CEO underscored KUCCPS’s commitment to inclusivity, noting that the system accommodates all candidates regardless of grade achievement, including those who scored an E grade.

She confirmed that KUCCPS personnel are positioned at Huduma centres across Kenya, and where dedicated desks are unavailable, cybercafé operators have received training on system navigation to assist applicants.

Career Guidance Conference This Week

KUCCPS will leverage an upcoming career guidance conference to provide students and parents with information about higher education pathways and career options.

The three-day forum, scheduled from January 27 to 29, 2025, at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre, will convene students, parents, universities, colleges, and education sector stakeholders.

The exhibition will feature over 100 participating institutions, including public and private universities, Technical and Vocational Education and Training colleges, professional associations, and private sector collaborators.
