Berni and Alex of CyberLocos Chart New Territory with Cybertruck’s Kenyan Debut

MOMBASA, Kenya — Kenya witnessed a historic automotive moment this week when a Tesla Cybertruck was spotted for the first time in the country, drawing crowds and igniting social media buzz as the futuristic electric pickup made its way through Mombasa’s streets.

Videos showing the distinctive stainless-steel vehicle charging at City Mall in Nyali circulated widely online, with curious onlookers gathering to photograph the rare sight. The footage quickly went viral across Kenyan social media platforms, prompting speculation about the vehicle’s ownership and purpose in the country.

The Cybertruck belongs to Berni and Alex, adventurers from CyberLocos, a global expedition team attempting to set a Guinness World Record by driving the electric pickup across multiple continents.

In a statement released on January 13, 2026, CyberLocos confirmed the team is traveling through Kenya as part of their African leg, which marks the beginning of the continent’s crossing in their ambitious journey.

The expedition has already covered extensive ground across the United States, South America, Europe, Central Asia, and the Middle East, with Africa representing the next chapter in their round-the-world adventure.

According to CyberLocos, the expedition aims to demonstrate the Cybertruck’s durability and performance capabilities while giving people worldwide the opportunity to experience the vehicle firsthand through photographs and in-person encounters.

The team described their vehicle as a three-ton, bulletproof pickup constructed from stainless steel and representing one of the most technologically advanced electric vehicles currently in production.

Tesla officially launched the Cybertruck in late 2023 after years of development. The vehicle features sharp, angular design elements crafted from ultra-hard 30X cold-rolled stainless steel—the same material used in SpaceX rockets—creating a distinctly futuristic, armored appearance.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has previously characterized the Cybertruck as “a vehicle built for any planet,” designed to handle challenging terrain, heavy loads, and extreme environmental conditions.

The vehicle carries a price range of approximately Ksh9.8 million to Ksh16 million depending on the model. The high-performance variant delivers 845 horsepower and can accelerate from 0–100 km/h in 2.6 seconds.

Additional specifications include a range of up to 550 kilometers per charge, adaptive air suspension, towing capacity exceeding 4.9 tonnes, and bi-directional charging capability that enables the truck to supply power to homes or other electric vehicles directly from its battery.

For the CyberLocos team, the expedition extends beyond record-breaking aspirations. The journey serves as a demonstration that electric vehicles can successfully navigate Africa’s demanding landscapes, from northern Kenya’s arid regions to expansive savannahs and highland terrain.

“We want everyone to see that clean energy is powerful enough to take you around the world,” the CyberLocos team stated.

The appearance of the Cybertruck in Kenya marks a notable milestone in the country’s exposure to cutting-edge electric vehicle technology and highlights the growing global push toward sustainable transportation solutions.
