“I Helped God Create Planets and Put Them in Their Orbit,” Prophet Owuor Tells Kisumu Congregation in Resurfaced 2019 Video

NAIROBI — A video recording from a 2019 religious gathering in Kisumu has reignited discussion on social media, with footage showing Prophet David Owuor of the Repentance and Holiness Ministry making assertions about his involvement in the formation of the universe.

The clip, which has circulated widely across Kenyan digital platforms in recent days, shows the religious leader addressing a large congregation during what was described as a mega rally in the lakeside city.

Claims Made During Rally

In the recording, Owuor tells attendees that he witnessed and participated in cosmic creation events. “We created those planets,” the preacher stated, before describing his purported role in positioning celestial objects.

“I was holding to put them in their orbit and on their matrix,” he explained to the crowd, while making gestures to illustrate the scale of such an undertaking. “Imagine how big a hand one can be,” he added.

Social Media Response

The video’s reemergence has generated substantial commentary on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, with users expressing varying degrees of skepticism regarding the claims.

Some commentators questioned the credibility of the assertions. “How do people buy such stories?” wrote one user, while another expressed surprise at the educational background of some followers, noting the presence of university lecturers among the congregation.

Several social media users raised concerns about the content of the message, with some suggesting the statements warranted scrutiny from mental health perspectives. Others used humor to respond to the footage, posting laughing emojis and dismissive remarks.

Divided Opinions

Not all responses were critical. Some defenders of the religious leader chose to emphasize what they describe as miraculous healings at his events rather than engaging with the cosmological claims.

One supporter stated that while unable to explain the creation process, they had witnessed positive outcomes at ministry gatherings, citing accounts of mobility restoration and vision improvement among attendees.

Background and Context

Owuor, a former geneticist who entered full-time ministry in the early 2000s, has become known for organizing large-scale healing rallies that attract substantial crowds. The 2019 Kisumu event where the video originated was among his most attended gatherings, with the city experiencing significant disruption as followers prepared for his arrival by cleaning streets.

Earlier this year, the religious leader attracted attention when the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council issued guidance cautioning against claims of prayer-based HIV/AIDS cure, though the statement did not name specific individuals.

The resurfaced footage has added to ongoing conversations in Kenya about religious teachings, the boundaries of faith claims, and the responsibilities of both religious leaders and their followers in evaluating extraordinary assertions.

The Repentance and Holiness Ministry has not issued a public statement regarding the renewed attention to the 2019 video.
