The popular streamer, whose real name is Darren Watkins Jr., arrived in Nairobi on January 11, 2026, marking the final destination of his extensive ‘Speed Does Africa’ tour that has traversed more than a dozen countries since late December 2025.

During his exploration of the capital city, IShowSpeed was introduced to one of Kenya’s most beloved culinary traditions: nyama choma. The experience, which was live-streamed to his audience, showed the content creator enthusiastically embracing the grilled meat delicacy that holds cultural significance across the country.
Tourism Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano officially welcomed the internet personality upon his arrival, extending invitations to experience various aspects of Kenyan culture and heritage.
In a statement posted on social media, CS Miano highlighted the diverse experiences awaiting the streamer in Kenya.
“Kenya is uniquely positioned at the intersection of ancient heritage and a fearless future. Our traditions are ‘out of this world’ because they aren’t just kept in museums; they are lived every day in our music, our food and culture, our city’s nightlife, our legendary Matatu culture (Nganya), and the unmatched hospitality of our people,” Miano stated.
The Cabinet Secretary specifically invited IShowSpeed to experience traditional Kenyan cuisine, including ugali paired with nyama choma and fresh kachumbari, describing these as “the true taste of our heritage.”
According to the planned itinerary, IShowSpeed is scheduled to visit Nairobi National Park, where he will experience Kenya’s renowned wildlife in the unique setting of a national park located within city limits. The tour will also include an exploration of Nairobi’s distinctive matatu culture, known for its colorfully decorated passenger vehicles and vibrant street presence.
Additionally, the streamer is set to experience a helicopter tour over Nairobi, providing aerial views of the capital city’s landscape. The visit will also include meetings with Kenyan content creators, potentially fostering cross-cultural collaborations in the digital space.
CS Miano emphasized Kenya’s athletic heritage and the cultural significance of the Maasai community in her welcome message.
“We are the Home of Champions and our Maasai people, the guardians of the land, have stories and rhythms that have remained powerful for centuries,” she noted.
The multi-country African tour has attracted millions of viewers globally, with supporters crediting the broadcasts for showcasing modern African urban life and challenging misconceptions about the continent among international audiences.
“Speed, you better prepare to have your breath taken away. Kenya is the hidden gem of Africa and we are ready to share our Magical Kenya with you and the world,” CS Miano concluded in her welcome message.
The visit represents a significant opportunity for Kenya’s tourism sector as the country leverages social media influence to enhance its international profile and attract younger demographics of travelers.
IShowSpeed’s live streams from Kenya are expected to continue throughout his stay, offering real-time documentation of his experiences across the country’s cultural, culinary, and natural attractions.
