KAKAMEGA COUNTY — The Orange Democratic Movement on Tuesday paid tribute to former Lugari Member of Parliament Cyrus Shakhalaga Khwa Jirongo, who was laid to rest at his ancestral home in Lumakanda, Kakamega County.

Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir represented ODM Party Leader Dr. Oburu Oginga at the funeral service, delivering a moving eulogy that highlighted both Mr. Jirongo’s political contributions and his lesser-known personal virtues.
Governor Nassir revealed the deep personal connection between the late politician and his family, describing Jirongo as a trusted confidant of his late father. “The late Jirongo held a special place in my heart. He was a long-time friend of my late father and a man he trusted deeply,” the Governor said.

In a touching testimony to Jirongo’s character, Nassir recounted how the former legislator would personally ensure his welfare during his school days. “Whenever my father was unavailable, Jirongo would personally drop me at school in my younger days. That quiet, practical kindness spoke volumes about the man he was: dependable, generous, and deeply invested in people beyond politics,” he stated.

The Governor emphasized that Kenya had lost a leader whose political journey left a lasting impact on the nation’s development, while also celebrating Jirongo’s warmth as a family man whose personal relationships extended far beyond the political arena.
“We laid to rest a leader whose journey left an indelible mark on our national life, and a family man whose warmth will be remembered by many,” Governor Nassir said, extending condolences to the bereaved family.

Mr. Jirongo served as Member of Parliament for Lugari Constituency and was known for his active participation in national politics during his tenure. His burial drew leaders and mourners from across the political divide, reflecting the broad respect he commanded during his lifetime.
The ODM delegation joined family members, friends, and fellow political leaders in celebrating a life dedicated to public service and community welfare.
