Parents and guardians can now access their children’s placement details by sending the learner’s KNEC assessment number via SMS to 22263 or through the ministry’s online portal at placements.education.go.ke.

Students are expected to report to their assigned senior secondary schools by Monday, January 12, 2026.

Automated Placement System

The ministry has indicated that the placement process was conducted through a fully automated system that took into account multiple factors, including students’ school preferences, their performance in the KJSEA examinations, psychometric test results, equity considerations, and the capacity of available schools.

Top-performing students in the STEM, social science, and arts tracks have been given priority placement in boarding schools based on their choices, according to the ministry.

Assessment Details

The 2025 KJSEA results were released on Thursday, December 11, following examinations conducted between October 27 and November 3. The assessment was designed to evaluate the readiness of the first cohort of students under the Competency-Based Education (CBE) curriculum.

A total of 1,130,459 learners sat for the examination, with 578,630 male students and 551,829 female students participating.

School Transfer Process

The ministry has established a procedure for parents and students who wish to request school transfers. Such requests must be submitted through junior school principals at least two weeks before the January 12 reporting date.

Senior schools are required to declare available vacancies through their respective county directors of education. The ministry has emphasized that the replacement process will be conducted only once and cannot be reversed once completed.

Upon approval of transfer requests, joining instructions will be issued online. The ministry has warned that schools are prohibited from issuing printed letters for replacement cases.

“The officers involved are required to cooperate and ensure a fair and credible selection and placement process for a smooth transition of students from junior school to senior school,” the ministry stated in its announcement.

The 2025 KJSEA marks a pivotal moment in Kenya’s education landscape as the country continues implementing the Competency-Based Curriculum system.
