AIPCA Church Distances Itself from Alleged Planted Congregants at Ruto’s Gatundu Service

The African Independent Pentecostal Church of Africa (AIPCA) has disassociated itself from alleged make-up-wearing women congregants in tight trousers who attended the Sunday service on 14 December 2025 in Gatundu during President Ruto’s church visit.

Speaking in an interview on Monday, 15 December 2025, a leader from the church claimed that the women were ferried by politicians to the event in buses on Sunday morning.

The church leader clarified that the women were given the women council blue headscarf by politicians, not the church, saying that the scarf can only be bought from the church headquarters in Nairobi.

“If you look keenly at the photos, you will notice that they are new. It is alleged that someone went to purchase the headscarves and gave them to non-members of the AIPCEA,” the leader from the church claimed.

The church leader blamed the events that transpired during the church service on politicians, blaming them for ferrying crowds to come cheer them and heckle their opponents.

“The AIPCEA does not behave this way. These are things that were brought by politicians who we cannot know the ones responsible, but they seemed to be from two different camps,” the leader said.

The church service was marred with heated politics between Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi and Thika Town MP Alice Ng’ang’a, who played out the Kiambu County gubernatorial politics on the pulpit.

It all began when the host, Gatundu North MP Elijah Kihururia, introduced Governor Kimani Wamatangi as the outgoing governor, utterances that made Wamatangi’s supporters begin heckling as his opponents cheered.

As Governor Wamatangi took to the podium, the crowd erupted into mixed reactions, with his supporters applauding loudly while rivals jeered. In his address, the governor rebuked MP Kihururia, confidently declaring he would secure a second term.

President Ruto however intervened to cool down the situation during his speech, where he asked the leaders to politic amicably, saying that all leaders in 2027 shall be elected based on the work they have done.

The events from the church service have raised public debate on social media, with many Kenyans criticising the politicians for ferrying goons to heckle their opponents during the church service.

The AIPCEA church leader has however stated that it shall not stop politicians from coming to the church but has warned that they should be careful with their utterances at the pulpit.
