The President made the remarks while receiving a security briefing, addressing recent online discourse surrounding his statement about transforming Kenya into a first-world nation within 20 years.
Ruto emphatically clarified that his current presidential term is scheduled to conclude in 2027, categorically dismissing speculation about any intentions to extend his time in office beyond the constitutional mandate.
“My term ends in 2027, and I have no interest in extending it,” the President stated, seeking to quell persistent rumors about potential term extensions.
The clarification comes amid growing political tensions, with some quarters calling for the President’s immediate resignation. Critics have invoked constitutional provisions in their demands, though specific legal grounds were not detailed in Tuesday’s proceedings.
However, supporters of the administration have pointed to several accomplishments under Ruto’s leadership, highlighting progress in the housing sector, road infrastructure development, and broader economic initiatives.
The President’s achievements have been touted against a backdrop of ongoing economic challenges facing the nation, with citizens grappling with the cost of living and other fiscal pressures.
The debate over Kenya’s development trajectory and the timeline for achieving first-world status continues to generate heated discussion across political and social platforms, with differing interpretations of the President’s vision sparking controversy.
The President’s unusually blunt language in addressing his critics marks a notable departure from typical diplomatic rhetoric, signaling his frustration with what he perceives as deliberate misrepresentation of his policy objectives.
