NAIROBI – In a significant parliamentary development, Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has been removed from his position as Senate Majority Whip, Senate Speaker Amason Kingi announced on Tuesday.

The decision, made by the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party, takes immediate effect following official communication received by the Speaker’s office.
Speaking during a plenary session, Speaker Kingi confirmed the leadership change after reviewing correspondence from the ruling party. “From the correspondence, the minutes indicate that a resolution was passed to remove the Senate Majority Whip Boni Khalwale in accordance with standing order 225,” he informed the House.
Bungoma Senator David Wakoli Wafula has been appointed to replace Khalwale in the leadership role.
The Speaker explained the procedural framework governing such changes: “Standing order 228 provides that the speaker upon receipt of the decision shall verify the correspondence received and deliver a communication to the Senate within three sitting days. Having verified the correspondence, I can confirm the majority party has effected a change in the office of the Senate Majority Whip and the new office holder with immediate effect is Senator David Wafula.”
The reshuffle marks a notable shift in Senate leadership dynamics, with Khalwale’s removal following internal party processes outlined in the Senate’s standing orders.
The UDA party has not yet issued a public statement detailing the reasons behind the leadership change.
