Amason Kingi’s Brother, Michael Kingi Appointed as Commissioner to Salaries Body

In a brief ceremony at the Supreme Court, Koome underscored the SRC’s pivotal role in fulfilling the objectives outlined in Article 230 of the Constitution. She highlighted the commission’s duties in ensuring the fiscal sustainability of the public compensation system, attracting and retaining skilled talent in the public sector, and establishing rewards for productivity and performance.
“The SRC is key to the realisation of the goals of Article 230,” Koome stated following the ceremony. “Its work is fundamental to maintaining a balanced and effective public service.”
The newly sworn-in commissioner, Eng. Michael Kingi, brings technical expertise to the role. His appointment has drawn public attention due to his familial relationship to another senior government official; he is the brother of National Assembly Speaker Amason Kingi.
The SRC, an independent body, holds significant influence over national fiscal policy as it sets and reviews the remuneration and benefits for all state and public officers. Eng. Kingi’s appointment comes at a time of ongoing national discussions regarding public sector wage constraints and the government’s efforts to manage its largest recurrent expenditure.
No further statements were issued by the Chief Justice or the new commissioner regarding specific policy directions. Eng. Kingi is expected to assume his duties with the commission immediately.
