The historic ordination elevated her position within the Presbyterian Church of East Africa, recognizing years of ministry dedicated to widows, orphans, and the boy child.

Cross-Party Support

The ceremony attracted a who’s who of Kenyan politics, with Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i among the prominent attendees standing alongside the former Deputy President.

“It is a beautiful day, and I am glad to be at Wamunyoro Farm with the Second Deputy President, H.E. @rigathi as we witness the ordination of H.E. Dr. Dorcas Rigathi,” Musyoka wrote on social media following the ceremony.

The Wiper leader invoked scripture to mark the occasion, quoting Psalm 118:23: “This is the Lord’s doing; it is marvellous in our eyes.”

“May this moment strengthen her calling and bless all those she serves,” Musyoka added, highlighting the spiritual significance of the event.

A Husband’s Tribute

Former Deputy President Gachagua paid tribute to his wife during the ceremony, praising her compassion and dedication to family life alongside her expanding ministerial role.

The ordination comes at a pivotal moment for the Gachagua family, following the former Deputy President’s ouster from office earlier this year. The couple’s ability to draw cross-party support to the intimate family farm ceremony underscores their continued influence in Kenyan political and social circles.

Ministry to the Marginalized

Rev. Dr. Dorcas Rigathi has built her reputation through sustained outreach to some of Kenya’s most vulnerable populations. Her ministry has focused particularly on supporting widows and orphans, while also championing causes affecting the boy child—a demographic often overlooked in social welfare programs.

The Presbyterian Church of East Africa’s decision to ordain her recognizes both her theological training and practical service to communities across the country.

The Saturday ceremony at the couple’s Wamunyoro Farm in Nyeri County blended spiritual tradition with political pageantry, marking a new chapter in Dr. Rigathi’s journey from Second Lady to ordained minister.
